It has been a whirlwind four days! As you know, Pinky and the Chupacabra’s were invited to perform for President and Mrs. Barack Obama at the first of 10 inaugural balls they attended, the Neighborhood Ball. With only three months to plan and prepare, Pinky’s marketing, fashion, fitness, travel and concert teams worked feverishly to ensure Pinky was in top form for the performance.
For Pinky, the Inaugural rush began on Sunday afternoon as she departed Los Angeles. Shortly after boarding Repalone One, an urgent call came through from then-President Bush. Apparently there was some confusion about the use of Air Force One to return him to Texas following the inauguration ceremony. Unfortunately, Australia’s former Prime Minister John Howard had scheduled Repalone One to transport his Presidential Medal of Freedom back to his home in Australia. Saddened that she was not able to meet the Bush Family’s request, Pinky was pleased to see that Mr. and Mrs. Bush were ultimately transported by helicopter to Andrews Air Force Base where they boarded another airplane for their journey home.
Arriving in D.C., Pinky was immediately whisked away to The Four Seasons on Pennsylvania Avenue. There she had an early dinner and then met with eight haute couture designers in an adjacent suite. Ever so tired and not quite ready to make a final fashion decision about her ensemble for Tuesday night’s performance, Pinky selected three outfits, all by Latin designers, promising to make her final pick on Monday.
Fully refreshed, Pinky spent Monday morning receiving several celebrity guests in her hotel suite. She spent the rest of the day in private meet-and-greets, rehearsals and attended a private luncheon with members of the President-elect’s family. That evening, Pinky was a guest at four separate pre-inauguration parties.
For Pinky, Inauguration Day began at 5 a.m. Making a last minute decision to wear an outfit designed by Jason Wu, Pinky traveled in her limousine to the U.S. Capitol Building. Seated in the second row, she enjoyed a dog’s eye view of the historical proceedings. Pinky then joined members of the Canine Democratic National Convention at a private lunch after which she returned to The Four Seasons to prepare for her evening performance.
Clearing VIP security at the Neighborhood Ball took nearly an hour, but Pinky put that time to good use. Calling several close confidants, she made a final decision to wear an outfit by one of the new First Lady’s favorite designers, Isabel Toledo. We think the decision was influenced in part by Mrs. Obama’s choice to wear Toledo’s yellow design to the inaugural events.
Upon the First Couple’s arrival, Pinky and the Chupacabra’s took the stage, performing their own hip-hop version of Paul Anka’s “Puppy Love.” After her stellar, and now popularized performance, Pinky took a private meeting with the President and First Lady. She came out of the encounter shaking with excitement, but quickly recovered herself. Although she will never tell, most commentators believe Pinky took the opportunity to advise the First Family about their choice of a White House Canine Companion. As President and Mrs. Obama left the Ball, Pinky was seen shaking her tail with Beyoncé, Jay-Z, will.i.am, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Sting, Faith Hill, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder and Maroon 5.
Departing D.C. just this morning, Pinky is now back in Los Angeles. She plans to take a day off for a much needed spa day.
