It's 100+ Fahrenheit here at Anne's Bohemian and I'm already dreaming about the next DTR event. Simply imagining a cool Reseda breeze wafting the delicious smell of nacho cheese throughout the property brings my temperature back into the 98.6 range.
Speaking of nachos, for those who haven't heard the good news, John's newest addition to his line of professional kitchen appliances is the nacho cheese dispenser machine. At Movie Night (July 5, 2008) bar regulars, friends of DTR (FODTR), and local community activists for the propagation of nacho cheese are invited to celebrate the official unveiling of DTR's nacho machine. Nacho testing has begun and the perfect output will be dialed in by the time Movie Night rolls around. Regretfully, Shirley Jones will not be able to provide the jalapenos but FODTR has generously provided 2 large cans of pickled jalapenos.
Dwight and Anne are in the midst of planning the next Casa de Shoshone Doctor Who event. Tentatively scheduled for June 14, check back soon for date confirmation and episode guide.
The Los Angeles Blades are hosting their annual Beer Bust Sunday on June 15. Support the team and have a beer! Five dollars gets you in the door at MJ's in Silverlake.
Here's a quick review of recent DTR and sister location event notes: Anne's birthday party at DTR was a smashing success! Although rain had threatened earlier in the day, guests were still able to enjoy the outdoor fire pit and tour the grounds. In keeping with tradition, I nearly caught myself on fire (45 candles is a lot to manage, especially when they're spread out on a 5 level cake stand sporting 30 cupcakes and a 3 layer cake.) In addition to an assortment of salads, couscous, fruit and vegetable platters, friends and family enjoyed Karl's now famous chocolaty rice krispy treats, Armi's red velvet cupcakes and German chocolate cake, John's fabulous hot dog and hamburger bbq, Mark's chicken casserole, and Tony's homemade salsas. Our dear surly bartender, Chris, went to new lengths to provide bar guests with the best in mixed drink delivery. He was, at one point, seen scaling an 8 foot ladder picking fresh oranges for a bar favorite, tequila sunrise. Mark worked the bar alongside Chris, making everyone feel welcome and pouring some pretty strong drinks! As always, Dwight was spot-on, delivering an eclectic mix of dance and after hours music. And Gregg, never far from a creative endeavor, documented the entire event for posterity.
At Anne's Bohemian, we welcomed surprise guest, John for a weekend of desert delights. We had a few hours for Sex and the City and then scaled the first mile of the Cactus to Clouds trail arriving at the picnic tables just in time to watch the last rays of sunlight leave the valley. The hike down the mountain was tricky, but no major mishaps occurred. Pioneertown, The Crossroads Cafe and the 29 Palms Inn were Saturday's destination and we ended our high desert runaround at the annual Chuckwalla Music Festival. Sunday morning John and I stood on the San Andreas fault and hiked 3 or so miles around the oasis. All this hiking makes me think a DTR hiking club may be needed....
