Movie Night Behind-the-Scenes

Movie Night Under the Stars invitations are out! No longer moved to wax nostalgic about this favorite summer affair, I’m pleased to offer a behind-the-scenes look at event preparations.

Prior to his Mid-West/Canadian journey, Proprietor Repalone dispatched the much anticipated Movie Night Evite. One of the very few invitation-only events at DTR, Movie Night invites are limited based on the seating capacity of the Downtown Repalone Covered Wagon Theatre venue. Replies are steadily coming in and several celebrity guests are now confirmed. Regretfully, Shirley Jones will not be able to attend.

Our Audio Visual Executive Director, Chris, is already prepping the vintage 16mm movie clips and performing necessary equipment and facilities maintenance. Always a delight, Chris’ perfect combination of novelty cartoons, classic film and random media clips offer the audience a unique and laughter-filled evening. In the 24 hours prior to show-time, Chris and his technical team will shift into high gear; running through system checks, aligning the hand built screen, testing electrical currents and conducting sound checks. The very few who have had the enviable opportunity to observe Chris during this readiness phase often note that preparations are conducted with the same intensity as NASA Shuttle launch sequencing.

On the food and beverage front, cases of soda, beer and snacks are on order. Executive Chef Karl reports delivery is scheduled for July 1 via two shipping containers. Also included in the shipment are kosher beef hot dogs, buns, nacho chips, nacho cheese, jalapenos, 100 pounds of popping corn, and 10 cases each of Goobers, Jujubes, Abba Zaba, Good & Plenty, Hot Tamales and Junior Mints. In the days just prior to Movie Night, key holders will gather at the bar to accomplish all the food and beverage prep work. Our efforts will be supervised by Sous-Chef and Security Director, Tony.

Worldwide DTRN Facilities Manager, Ken, has been called-in to design several temporary structures to store incoming food and beverage items. Simultaneously Ken will begin a thorough facilities review; ensuring new DTR appliances meet code requirements, double-checking venue air quality, and performing regular physical plant maintenance. This property-wide review typically lasts two weeks and is part of Repco Global, Inc.’s annual Property Maintenance and Beautification Program established by Karen in 1997.

The first major event of the season, Movie Night Under the Stars heralds an unprecedented summer event schedule. Check our event calendar for details about Downtown Repalone upcoming events.
