The Armchair Chaperone
The Seven assembled last night for an evening of armchair traveling. And what a journey it was! As we grubbed on pizza, salad and BBQ potato salad (I'd never had it either), we toured Israel via the wide screen. With his penchant for all things historical, Mark wove pictures, anecdotes and 4,000 years of history together. We spent time in Tel Aviv, stood atop the stark hills of Masada, meandered the narrow streets of the old city in Jerusalem, wondered at all the hopes and prayers tucked into the crevices of the Western Wall, explored caverns and tunnels deep under Jerusalem, watched in mild amusement as the belly-dancer entertained after dinner in the Bedouin tents, pondered the Dome of the Rock and its historical significance to Jews, Muslims and Christians, and marveled at the opulence of churches and other points-of-interest along the Via Dolorosa. At every turn, Mark noted dates, provided political commentary and gave us a great taste of his adventure. Thanks Mark!
